In an outing that was reminiscent of our early days, we had a smaller turnout due to the temperature and small snow fall. We felt a picture or two was in order. Thanks to those who braved the elements to create a very enjoyable match!

Wednesday Match on Hiatus

The end of Daylight Saving Time marks the suspension of the Wednesday game until March. It will return on March 12, 2014.

Wednesday Match Start Time Now 5pm

Due to the shorter daylight window, we will begin playing at 5pm beginning this Wednesday, October 23. With Daylight Savings ending on November 3rd, this will only be in effect for the next 2 Wednesdays.

The SMN freshmen have a football game at North at 10am. Therefore we will move to Maple Hills for the 9am match. This is a one-time change.

FCKC has their first playoff game at North at 1pm. Therefore we will move to Maple Hills for the 9am match. This is a one-time change.

Wednesday game moving to Maple Hills

Through the high school football season, the Wednesday game will be at Maple Hills. Hope to see you there!

One-Time Field Change This Wednesday

American football season is beginning at SMN this week so we will be moving to Maple Hills Park for the 5:30 match. I spoke to a coach last week who said the full practice schedule will be determined this week for the coming month or so. Because of that, please check next week to see if we will have to make a longer term switch going forward.

Sunday Game Later Start Time - 5:30

In an effort to beat the heat, we will move the start time of the Sunday match to 5:30 for the summer months.

Sunday Match Moved to Maple Hills Park

For the next 4 weeks, the Sunday afternoon match will be moved to Maple Hills Park, 85th Street and Switzer. It will be at 3:30 this week and there will be a discussion as to possibly moving the game's start time.

This coming Wednesday will mark the return of the Wednesday match. It will be at Shawnee Mission North High School at 5:30. If the main field is in use, we will use the upper football practice field. Hope to see you out there!

Where Are They Now? - Jonathan Moore

A feature I have been mulling over for some time has just been accelerated. The following email came in from Jon who has recently begun a long-term work arrangement in England:

I have been meaning to write everyone for the last few weeks, but things have been hectic with our move to the UK. I want to tell all of you how great you are. Playing with the Youngs Park SC has been the one thing I most look forward to every week for the last year and a half. You have all done an amazing job to create a friendly and fun, yet competitive environment. That isn't easy to do and you have done it well. Of the many things that are changing with our move, giving up the soccer club is perhaps the hardest. The club has really improved my life and I want all of you to know how much I appreciate that. Any of you are welcome to come and visit while we are here for at least the next year and take in an EPL match.

Ironically it's been much harder to find a game here in the UK than it was in Kansas City. The leagues in the area do not offer services to match free players to a team or house teams. And so far I haven't found any pickup games. But I was able to connect with a team tonight by going to the Leisure League 6 a side games tonight and asking around. I think there was some skepticism of having a yank play, but I got a little bit of a trial tonight at a friendly game. The goals are about waist high, but full width. They seemed practically huge compared it our pickup games. So after scoring 7 goals and 3 assist, I got in invite back. Nothing like playing on tiny goals to help with that :-).
